How the fees work
Three small fees make one real one.
Individually each fee looks minor; combined, the standard stack on a shipped $25 order is around 11% before any advertising. Because two of the three fees apply to shipping as well, “free shipping with a higher item price” and “cheap item plus real shipping” produce nearly identical deductions — price on the total, not the item line.
If Offsite Ads applies to your shop, model attributed orders separately: 12–15% on top of this stack changes which items are worth promoting at all.

How much does Etsy take from a sale?
As of August 2026, Etsy’s published US structure stacks three fees per sale: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee on the total the buyer pays (item, shipping, gift wrap), and US payment processing at 3% + $0.25. On a $20 item with $5 shipping that is roughly $2.80. Confirm current numbers on Etsy’s fee policy before pricing.
Is the transaction fee charged on shipping?
Yes. Etsy applies the 6.5% transaction fee to the total order amount including what the buyer pays for shipping and gift wrapping, and payment processing also applies to the total. Raising shipping does not avoid fees.
What about Offsite Ads and other optional fees?
Offsite Ads adds 12–15% on attributed orders (mandatory above a revenue threshold), and optional Etsy Ads budgets are separate. This calculator covers the three standard per-sale fees; add your own percentages for advertising in the editable fields.
